HEXTAZE

Perfect loops

A loop that plays again and again on TikTok, Instagram or YouTube Shorts has two seams to close: the sound and the picture. HEXTAZE closes the sound for you, to the sample, and helps you close the picture. Here is the whole method.

Why loops are hard

Cut a song anywhere but on the bar and the loop limps; cut it on the bar but on the wrong sample and it clicks. Cut the video a frame late and the picture jumps. Editors ask you to fix all three by hand. HEXTAZE records the take on the grid of the song itself: it starts on a count-in, runs exactly the bars you chose, and stops on the downbeat.

The method

  1. Import your track. Import › Sound from Files. MP3, M4A, WAV or AIFF, at least 6 seconds, not copy-protected. HEXTAZE finds the tempo, beats and bars on the phone. Use a song you have the right to post.
  2. Pick your bars. On the SOUND screen, check the BPM (÷2 or ×2 if it is off by an octave), move the first beat with BEAT 1 ‹ ›, drag the window to the bars you want, and pick 2, 4, 8 or 16 bars. 4 bars is 8 seconds at 120 BPM. Press play to hear the loop before you shoot.
  3. Strike a start pose. Frame yourself and hold still. The loop closes on this picture, so make it one you can come back to.
  4. Tap record once. One bar of count-in, four clicks and a big number, then the take runs exactly your bars. Loop takes are tap-only: no hold, no latch.
  5. Come back to the silhouette. During the last bar, a faint silhouette of your first frame appears over the picture. Match it: that is what closes the picture's loop. The sound closes by itself.
  6. Let it stop by itself. The take ends on the downbeat. Stopping early keeps a shorter clip that will not loop cleanly.
  7. Share. In the library, Share keeps the song, cut on the same bars with no click at the join. To add the track inside the app you post to instead, use Silent and line its start up with your first frame.

Good to know

The sound is seamless to the sample. The picture closes when you come back to the start pose: the silhouette helps you land it, and the die, the pad's lock and the beat-locked LFO all keep the look consistent from the first frame to the last.
